Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh called on Justin Trudeau and the Liberals on Thursday to take action to fix Canada’s health-care system, in what he called a “national crisis.”
Ontario Nurses’ Association President Cathryn Hoy joined Singh in speaking at the press conference.
Singh offered suggestions to solve the problem, such as reducing red-tape for internationally trained health-care workers to become qualified in Canada, as well as hiring at least 50,000 long-term care workers.
Hoy asked for a violence prevention framework for health-care workers due to abuse and violence that sometimes takes place in hospitals.
This press conference comes as hospitals across the country are shuttering emergency rooms as the health-care system hits its breaking point, with a nursing shortage and health-care workers becoming burnt out.
